What is I heart Market?
I heart Market is a community of makers. For 10 years we have been creating a platform for local design, craft, fashion and food.
I heart Market is the Anti-Mall – providing a retail space for local creatives, that is also a great day out in pleasant surroundings.
On market day, Durbanites and visitors, friends and family gather under the iconic arches of Moses Mabhida Stadium to meet the makers, people watch, eat great food and support local artisans and crafters.
When does I heart Market take place?
I heart Market takes place on the first Saturday of the every month from 9am – 2pm. The exception is in December when we hold 3 (or more) markets on each Saturday before Christmas.
From time to time we may have other market events at different venues.
To confirm these dates – cast your eye over our Facebook events.
Where does I heart Market take place?
I heart Market takes place on the lawns of Moses Mabhida Stadium situated on the corner of Masabalala Yengwa Ave (NMR Ave) and Isaiah Ntshangase Rd.
Tell me about Parking and Admission?
The best place to park is at Moses Mabhida Stadium’s underground parking area. Access to this parking is opposite the Shark’s Cage on Isaiah Ntshangase Rd. Once that parking is full, more parking can be found at Kings Park Pool or Mustering Fields opposite People’s Park on Masabalala Yengwa Ave (NMR Ave).
Parking is free except on certain days if there is a coinciding event on at the stadium or Kings Park Fields, IE: rugby games.
NB! There are a number of unofficial car guards that often encourage visitors to park illegally on the side of the roads or on the pavements. We advise you not to park illegally (even if waved into a space). You may incur a fine or, even worse, your car might be towed away by the Metro Police.
Admission to I heart Market is free and everybody is welcome!
What should I expect?
We have put together a collection of the best creatives. In our two marquees you will find a wide range of different products that are all locally designed and produced and of great quality. Expect fashion, jewellery, home décor, kiddies wear, plants, natural skin care, deli goods, accessories, vintage collectibles, art, ceramics and delicious foods.
What payment is accepted at the market?
All vendors accept cash. Many have credit card machines and Zapper codes. There are numerous ATMs on site at Moses Mabhida Stadium so that you can shop to your heart’s content.
I can’t find the vendor I am looking for!
Not every vendor trades at every market. Pop past our market tables, situated next to the DJ under the trees and we will try and locate the vendor for you.
Can you give me a particular vendor’s contact number?
As a rule, we do not give out vendor’s contact details but we can direct you to their online presence or pass your details on to them. The best way to do this is pop us a mail on firstname.lastname@example.org – if you don’t know the traders name then please give us as much info as possible so that we can point you in the right direction. ie: where the stall is situated, in which tent, a detailed description of what they sell etc.
The weather doesn’t look good… Will the market still be on?
Most of our traders are positioned under one of two marquees, so they are always protected from the weather. Which means that we never cancel a market and you will always find us there on the first Saturday of the month.
